Church Should Be Fun

How does that sentence strike you? Church should be fun? At Deep Rivers we have tried to make a big deal out of the fact that God is transcendent – and we have intentionally prayed to experience His presence. We have talked about the importance of recognizing this presence with a sense of awe and respect. So how we can also say, “Church should be fun?”

Because Psalm 16:11 says, “You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

“Joy” is the answer to the question. Church should be a place of joy – and fun.

This is ONE of the reasons why we’re hosting a Trivia Night on February 28th at 7:00pm. Because we are supposed to have fun together. So come and have some fun. The SECOND reason we are hosting a Trivia Night is that we are supposed to have fun with those outside of our church community. (Gasp!) That might not be a strange or stretching thought for you – but sadly it is for many.

We are inviting the community to join us for this Trivia Night, so we can have some fun with people we don’t know. People go to bars and coffeehouses for Trivia Nights all the time so why not invite them to one in a place of ministry…and a place of joy!

Let’s have fun at this Trivia Night – and let’s not be afraid of having fun on Sunday mornings. If God is present, there will be joy. And fun.
